About 60 members of the public, mainly from the Muslim community, attended the launch event of Operation Nicole which took place at the JET centre, in Normanton Road, last night.
They discussed issues and took part in workshops to understand why the police make certain decisions during their investigations into terrorist issues.
Leading Operation Nicole in Derbyshire is Inspector Karl Mortimer.
He said: “It is important that we work alongside the community so they better understand why we make certain decisions with regards to our actions on counter-terrorism and so they can have input on the way they feel about these decisions.
“Bringing community leaders and younger people together in a two-way communication event like this enables all parties to have this input.”
